Over the course of his 27-minute rant about election security last night, Donald Trump repeatedly claimed that China interfered in the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden, suggesting that the Chinese had gained access to voter data that was used to benefit the Biden campaign.
However, as he laid out the specious “facts” he thought would bolster his argument, Trump actually handed his critics a damaging piece of evidence that proves Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin, used their own influence to try and tilt the 2020 presidential race in favor of the then-incumbent head of state.
As The Daily Beast reports, Putin and his cohorts in the Kremlin were active in spreading lies about Biden.
“One of the documents describes Putin and senior officials overseeing proxy efforts to spread claims that Biden, as vice president, engaged in criminal activity in his dealings with Ukraine and Burisma. The document says operatives affiliated with the Russian government advanced these narratives with U.S. officials and other prominent figures, through personal interactions as well as audio and documentary releases via U.S. and Ukrainian outlets.”
“It goes on to say these figures were conspiring to intensify their efforts as the election approached, aiming to “orchestrate a high-profile corruption scandal” implicating Biden and the Democratic Party in order to help Trump win.”
China was also actively working on Trump’s behalf, according to another declassified document.
Most importantly, however, is the fact that no U.S. intelligence or law enforcement agency has ever uncovered any proof that a foreign government or other nefarious actor influenced even a single vote in 2020.
Also, keep in mind that when the 2020 election was held, Donald Trump was the sitting president, yet he never once complained that anyone was helping Biden. As a matter of fact, the Trump administration was predicting they would win just days before the election was held.
