Walmart, the largest retailer in the world, is pushing back at the Trump administration and so-called “President” Donald Trump after he tried to take credit for their recent price cuts.
On Monday, Trump announced the price reductions on some items, posting on his failing Truth Social site, “Great news! I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday. Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products.”
“Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too, just like egg and Prescription Drug prices which I am bringing down by historic levels,” Trump added. “Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots.”
However, Walmart says the price reductions took place at least a week before his posting, and they had absolutely nothing to do with him.
So much for a victory lap.
According to The Bulwark, “When contacted for comment, Walmart referred me to a statement it had released minutes after that Trump post on Monday. The statement read like pretty much every other superstore press release, promoting price cuts at Walmart and Sam’s Club for select summer cookout staples like hot dogs and a store-brand ice cream.”
“The statement did not mention Trump, and a Walmart spokesperson declined comment on the record further.”
As usual, Donnie is lying and trying to take credit for accomplishments that belong to others. And considering that he has reactivated his on-again, off-again war with Iran, prices won’t be lower for long. If you doubt that, just wait until you get hit with new sticker shock at the gas pump.
