Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo got a history lesson and an on-air upbraiding from Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) on her show this morning when she tried to blame former President Barack Obama for causing Donald Trump’s attack on Iran, which has only succeeded in destroying the U.S. economy.
Referencing Trump’s just-completed visit to China, Bartiromo claimed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which is also known as the Iran nuclear deal, put in place during the Obama administration, had failed.
“President Obama actually sent Iran money,” she said.
“Maria, just so we’re factual, he didn’t send them money; it was their money that was unfrozen,” Khanna corrected Bartiromo.
Bartiromo then floated yet another lie, saying the JCPOA didn’t contain any “commitment that they would stop building a nuclear weapon,” even though it did.
Khanna again countered with facts.
“For 15 years [under the JCPOA], 97% of enriched uranium out! Instead, what did we get? We ended up having 60% of enriched uranium when Trump tore up the deal!” Khanna noted. “We have 13 American service members dead, we have Americans paying $4 at gas, we have food prices…”
When Bartiromo began to interrupt the congressman, he again took control of the debate.
“Let me just finish, Maria!” Khanna said. “Look at the facts here: because Trump tore up the deal, Americans are dead, Americans are paying more for food, Americans are paying more for gas, the Strait of Hormuz is less secure, and the war is unpopular; 70% of Americans don’t want this war, even Republicans are defecting!”
The Fox host poo-pooed Khanna’s statement, saying “nobody wants war. We also don’t want a nuclear terrorist to have a nuclear weapon.”
“And Obama was on the road to achieving that!” Khanna told her.
Knowing the had been bested by Khanna, Bartiromo whined, “No, no way! He didn’t achieve anything!” Obama did squat! Obama did squat!”
The facts are indisputable. Under the JCPOA, Iran DID NOT have a nuke. Would they have still pursued one? Maybe, but until they did, it was foolhardy of Trump to attack and destroy the American economy.
As for Bartiromo, she’s got her nose so far up Trump’s fat butt that she can hardly breathe.
