Donald Trump was reportedly angered and disgusted by the way Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem handled herself this week during multiple congressional hearings in the House and Senate, and is ready to toss her overboard, according to a report from Punchbowl News.
Noem appeared before the House and Senate Judiciary Committees this week, and comments she made during questions from Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) were especially vexing for the so-called president.
Kennedy asked Noem if Trump had personally approved a $220 million advertising campaign that featured Noem.
Kennedy told Noem the ad campaign risked putting Trump “in a terribly awkward spot.” He also asked Noem why the advertising contract went to a firm run by the husband of her former DHS spokesperson, Tricia McLaughlin.
There was also a major dustup between Noem and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), who accused the DHS chief of being a heartless animal killer and suggested her incompetence may have led to the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.
Even if Trump does replace Noem, there’s also the matter of whether a replacement could get the necessary votes for confirmation.
To that end, Trump is reportedly considering giving the job to Sen. Markwayne Mullin (OK), according to The New Republic.
Noem has been in over her head since accepting the post as the head of DHS. Her actions have been disastrous and controversial. If anyone deserves to get the boot, it’s Ice Barbie.
