‘President Non Compos Mentis’ Faceplants When Asked About Suspending Habeas Corpus

Could it be any clearer that Donald Trump is unfit for office?

For those that need further proof, you don’t have to look any further than a response Trump gave yesterday when asked a question about what other actions he might still take on the issue of immigration.

A reporter asked, “Have you given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus to not only deal with these insurrectionists across the nation, but also to continue rapidly deporting illegal aliens?”

“Suspending who?” Trump responded, clearly thinking the reference was to a person instead of a legal protection found in American jurisprudence.

Habeas corpus,” the reporter reiterated.

“I don’t know,” the confused Trump replied. “I’d rather leave that to (Secretary of Homeland Security) Kristi (Noem.) What do you think?”

“Sir, I haven’t been part of any discussions on that,” Noem said.

Ask Kristi Noem? Really? She’s already proven she has no idea what it habeas corpus is, telling Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) during a Senate hearing in May, “Well, habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country and suspend their right to–”

Hassan quickly corrected Noem.

“Excuse me, habeas corpus is the legal principle that requires that the government provide a public reason for detaining and imprisoning people,” the senator explained.

Trump’s very public faceplant led to a torrent of online mockery.

George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson couldn’t be reached for comment. They were too busy spinning in their graves.
