Marjorie Taylor Greene Says ‘Evil Is Being Defeated’ After Pope Francis Dies

Just hours after it was announced that Pope Francis had died of heart failure at the age of 88, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) went on social media and took what can only be called a tasteless victory lap.

Here’s what Greene posted on Twitter/X: “Today there were major shifts in global leaderships. Evil is being defeated by the hand of God.”

No matter what your particular religious beliefs may or may not be (I’m a longtime agnostic), it’s generally considered poor form to celebrate the death of a spiritual leader.

Of course, in the case of Greene, her entire life is lived in a state of poor form, boorishness, and outright assholery. It’s sort of her raison d’être.

But is it wise to alienate millions of Americans who happen to be Catholic, including some who might be Greene’s constituents?

Also, who is Greene to call anyone else evil? After all, this is a woman who allegedly had multiple affairs while she was married and is now divorced, which, according to some religions, is considered to be a sin.

Greene’s tasteless posting should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention. She’s long been an anti-Catholic bigot.

“Greene, a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, has drawn significant criticism for her remarks about the Catholic Church, particularly for accusing it of being run by ‘Satan‘ and supporting policies she views as harmful, such as aiding undocumented immigrants. In a 2022 interview, she claimed that the Church’s charitable work in helping migrants amounted to ‘Satan controlling the church,’ which sparked backlash from Catholic leaders and organizations,” Newsweek notes.

Greene’s victory lap over the pope’s passing wasn’t well-received.

Next thing you know, Margie is going to be dancing a happy jig because children are starving in Africa. Or has she already done that?
