An elected Republican has finally said the quiet part loud when it comes to why nearly everyone in the party refuses to criticize Donald Trump, even when he blatantly violates the Constitution and refuses to obey court orders.
According to Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), they’re terrified of being in Trump’s crosshairs.
Speaking to nonprofit leaders Wednesday in her home state, Murkowski admitted, “We are all afraid. It’s quite a statement. But we are in a time and a place where I certainly have not been here before. And I’ll tell ya, I’m oftentimes very anxious myself about using my voice, because retaliation is real. And that’s not right.”
“It’s called the checks and balances. And right now we are not balancing as the Congress,” she added.
The senator said she had been approached by federal workers “in tears” because they had been laid off by the White House for no reason that was ever explained to them.
“They thought they were in a profession they’ve given so much to, thought they were doing well, and literally no notice whatsoever, are terminated and told their work performance are not satisfactory, which was not true, and didn’t know what was going to happen next,” she recalled.
“The fear I have heard from people that have said I’m afraid to talk to my co-workers of my status of where we are because will I be viewed as questioning my supervisors or my commitment to the agency here. These are real emotions, these are real people, these are real fears, and they need to be heard.”
However, Murkowski didn’t promise that she would be more vocal in the future, perhaps because she’s too much of a coward to say what needs to be said about a dictatorial clown who just so happens to be leader of the free world. And that alone suggests that the United States will never return to the true pillars of our republic until Donald Trump is purged from office by impeachment or the electorate. Until then, most of the country will awaken and go to sleep in fear of what happens next.
This isn’t what the Founding Fathers had in mind.
