Influential Republican Refuses To Defend Hegseth – Suggests Trump Give Him The Axe

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) repeatedly declined to defend Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth when asked if Donald Trump should give the drunken military chief a second chance and keep him on after the drubbing Republicans took at the ballot box this week.

Many voters said one of the reasons they voted Democratic instead of Republican was because of the war with Iran, which led NewsNation host Markie Martin to ask if Comer thought there should be “somebody new in that spot,” especially since both Democrats and Republicans have hinted articles of impeachment against Hegseth could be introduced in the House “as soon as next week.”

“Well, that’s gonna be a decision that President Trump’s going to have to make, but I can tell you with a high level of confidence that there’s a lot of questions about Hegseth,” Comer responded. “We have no idea what the strategy is moving forward in Iran.”

“No one’s happy about Iran,” he added. “And I think the Republican voters are more upset about what’s going on in Iran than the Democrat voters.”

“That’s all I heard from Republican voters, people that have been MAGA for the last 12 years, MAGA flags in their yard, wore MAGA caps,” Comer continued. “I mean, they are mad that we’re in this situation in Iran, and they’re mad over gas prices, and a lot of them stayed home.”

Later in the interview, Comer said, “I do not think, at least in Kentucky, I don’t think that upset MAGA people voted Democrat. They just didn’t vote. So we’ve got to regain their trust.”

It appears the White House is indeed close to giving Hegseth the boot, with an unnamed administration official telling Fox Digital, “I believe you’ll ultimately see [Trump] hold Pete Hegseth accountable and that will play out in the lame duck.”

For his part, Hegseth released a video Thursday in which he smugly remarked, “A disgruntled, defeated congressman, along with all his Democrat allies, has also dropped sham articles of impeachment against yours truly, just like they tried against President Trump twice.”

Hegseth is a liability, and even Trump knows that. It’s safe to bet Pete will soon be shown the door.
