Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins tried to filibuster instead of answering questions during a contentious House Agriculture Committee hearing this morning, eventually being told to “stop talking” by the committee’s ranking member.
Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) began listing off facts regarding how the Trump administration had been bad for American farmers, which raised the price of food in the U.S., but Rollins continued to interrupt her, leading Craig to say, “Reclaiming my time means you stop talking. That’s what it means in this building.”
Congresswoman Craig then asked Rollins about farm losses in 2025. Rollins quoted bankruptcy filings, which led Craig to correct her: 15,000 farms were lost in 2025, in large part, she added, “because of bad policy on the part of this administration.”
What about total loss of farmers? Craig inquired. Rollins again tried to argue instead of answer the query.
“If this administration didn’t have terrible policies, we would not need all that support for family farmers,” Craig said, “because we would have export markets still left in China.”
Things got even more heated when Craig asked Rollins to cite the current price of a gallon of farm diesel fuel. When the secretary tried to blame former president Joe Biden, the congresswoman again shut her down.
” Joe Biden is no longer the president of the United States. Mr. Trump is. Your party controls Congress. You own these numbers.”
What percentage of farmers are unable to afford fertilizer for their crops this year? Craig asked Rollins.
When Rollins tried yet again to obfuscate, Craig said, “Oh, my God! 70% is the answer.”
Rollins whined, “Those are not the numbers. That’s not correct.”
On the topic of SNAP (i.e. food stamps), Rollins claimed fraud was rampant in the program, to which Craig countered that the USDA’s own data shows the fraud rate is a mere 1.6%. “I honestly don’t think you understand the difference between error rates and fraud rates,” the congresswoman said.
“You’re not asking questions for an answer. You’re asking questions to make a political statement,” Rollins complained.
“When you describe the farm economy as the ‘golden age,’ this administration needs to wake up and start understanding that family farmers are in need,” Craig concluded.
Every cabinet official in the Trump administration is just as willfully ignorant and uninformed as their boss. No wonder the country is circling the drain with these morons running things.
