Being associated with the Trump administration is now so toxic that numerous musical acts who were supposedly scheduled to perform at a June 27 concert on the National Mall that has been dubbed the “Great American State Fair” have now dropped out or said they never agreed to perform in the first place.
“The Great American State Fair will bring together people from all 56 states and territories to celebrate the traditions, innovation, music, military heritage, freedom and entrepreneurial spirit that define our nation,” Freedom 250 CEO Keith Krach announced in a statement
Krach said the performers chosen “represent the very best of who we are, and the boundless opportunity ahead.”
Here’s a partial list of the acts provided by the administration: Martina McBride; Young MC; Vanilla Ice, and Poison frontman Bret Michaels.
But as the Daily Beast reports, several performers say they don’t plan to be anywhere near the event.
Young MC, however, says he won’t be performing or even be in the Washington zip code on the day of the concert.
“I HAVE INFORMED MY AGENTS THAT I WILL NOT BE PERFORMING AT THE FREEDOM 250 EVENT,” he posted on Instagram. The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event. And despite the claims by the organizers that the event is non-partisan, SPIN magazine describes it as Trump-backed. I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged.”
Morris Day and the Time, who co-starred in Prince’s Purple Rain, also said they were not going to be part of concert.
“It’s a no from me,” Day posted on social media,
C+C Music Factory frontman Freedom Williams was even more explicit with his denial.
“We’re gonna cancel C+C Music Factory, this is going to be a terrible show.”
“So I told my agent, `Yeah, no, I ain’t good to do that’… I don’t f— with Trump. I don’t give a f— about Trump… I know the type of f—ing anarchy he creates. But the day I let you motherf—–s tell me what to do, is the day I die.”
Donald Trump is a toxic commodity. Almost no one wants to be seen in public with him. That’s because he’s despised by the majority of the American electorate and is also rumored to smell very bad due to his issues with urinary and bowel incontinence. Oh, and he’s also a monumental jerk.
So who will be at the June 27 concert? Well, Vanilla Ice hasn’t yet canceled, but does anyone really want to see a talentless hack like him sing his one hit song? If so, they can stay home and watch it on TV.
Karma can be a beautiful thing at times.
