In what may wind up going down in history as the greatest act of hypocrisy ever seen from a U.S. president, Donald Trump will read from the Bible as part of something known as the “Museum of the Bible,” even though he’s never been able to name what verse of the book is his favorite.
According to The Daily Beast, “Trump has recorded himself reading scripture from the Old Testament for a marathon Bible reading billed as ‘a national reading of God’s law.'”
Trump is delighted to be a part of the project, the White House announced, to “honor Holy Scripture, renew our faith, usher in a historic resurgence of religion on American shores, and rededicate the United States as one Nation under God.”
The passage Trump will record is found in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Trump’s attempt to appear holy comes just days after he picked a fight with Pope Leo XIV, attacking the Pontiff as “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.”
Earlier this week, Trump also posted (and later deleted) a meme on social media in which he was depicted as a holy figure healing someone with his divine touch. Many suggested Trump was equating himself with Jesus, though the White House later denied any such intention. However, they failed to explain why the picture was scrubbed from the internet.
Some friendly advice for the worst president in American history: Don’t stand too close to open windows when you do your Bible reading. A stray bolt of lightning might give you God’s response to your hubris.
