In what may well go down in history as the most bizarre and deranged message ever sent by an American president, Donald Trump proclaimed this morning, “Praise be to Allah’ as he issued more threats to the nation of Iran.
In a posting he made on his Truth Social site that was also shared to Twitter/X, Trump wrote, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP”
A closer look at the post suggests that Trump will order the U.S. military to begin attacking power plants and bridges in Iran, even though doing so could be a war crime.
Additionally, there’s the demand that Iran open the Strait of Hormuz or face consequences. Trump has made similar threats in the past.
What’s odd is the “Praise be to Allah” line. Is that supposed to be a slap at Islam? If so, it’s odd to invoke it on the holiest day in the Christian calendar, Easter. It seems more than a bit sacrilegious to do so, but it’s been clear for decades that Trump is only a “Christian” when it benefits him politically. He doesn’t attend church, cannot name his favorite Bible verse, has cheated on all three of his wives, and curses like a proverbial sailor.
Trump’s posting drew plenty of online reaction.
