Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared to tip his hand and admit that the American public isn’t on board with the U.S. attack on Iran, sharing a video on social media that features a servicemember telling members of the military to be “combat ready” and ready for deployment if they’re called to do so.

As you can see from the context added by readers, the video wasn’t exactly the sort of thing that Hegseth should have trumpeted online without first checking its provenance and context. Instead, the Defense Secretary just hit the “post” button and walked away, creating an even larger controversy and making himself look more foolish than usual.
Blowback from the video was immediate, harsh, and at times hilarious.
Why is @PeteHegseth spreading misinformation and old videos?

I saw "I swore an oath" on the video. Yet I did not hear you mention one thing that resembles your oath.
Your oath is to the constitution. Not an administration.
And while I respect our armed forces, I have not seen our…

Pete must be hitting the Chivas Regal earlier in the day than usual. Maybe he can get a spot in rehab after the war is over.
