Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) made an appearance on Fox News this morning, and in the process of attacking his Democratic gubernatorial challenger, he said something so utterly moronic that social media users couldn’t resist raking him over the coals for his absurd statement.
Abbott went after state Rep. Gina Hinojosa (D-Austin) over support he said she has received from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and that means she supports “Sharia law.”
CAIR, it should be noted, is the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States. They do fantastic work on behalf of the Muslim community and are respected by both Democratic and Republican lawmakers across the country, and as they note on their website, “CAIR has always condemned violence against civilians — including on October 7th. Any claim otherwise is a smear. Our very public record on this includes over 100 statements since 1994 condemning terrorism worldwide. That’s 30 years of CAIR rejecting unjust violence in every form.”
“CAIR condemns antisemitism just as strongly as Islamophobia — hate against Jews has no place in our society. Our record is public and consistent. We work regularly with Jewish civil rights groups and have had Jewish staff in leadership roles within our organization. That’s the opposite of bigotry.”
Abbott was lit up on Twitter/X for his blatant (and idiotic) fearmongering.
Of all the people who deserve to lose come November 3, Greg Abbott is at the top of the list.
