Hegseth’s Plan To Dodge Impeachment Would Put Him In The Senate: Report

If the midterm elections go as expected and Democrats regain control of both the House and Senate, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will more than likely be impeached and possibly removed from his post as head of the U.S. military.

According to a report from Puck, Hegseth is looking for a landing spot if he impeachment proceedings begin, and it would involve him becoming a senator.

“Momentum is building within the House Democratic caucus to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth when Congress returns after Election Day, as I reported last week, raising questions about how the Senate will respond. The answer, of course, depends on which party controls the upper chamber, and by what margin. Some Republicans, I’m told, are hoping that President Trump could fire Hegseth before any possible impeachment is underway. But I’m also told that some senators foresee a pathway for the self-proclaimed Secretary of War to step down before the Senate is forced to address a potential impeachment,” Leigh Ann Caldwell writes.

“Already there’s chatter on the Hill that Hegseth has been angling for Sen. Marsha Blackburn to appoint him to her Senate seat, which she would vacate after winning her gubernatorial election. Hegseth lived in Tennessee for three years before he took over the Pentagon, but his short tenure there might not count as real Tennessee roots.”

As you’d expect, the Pentagon denied Hegseth will be leaving his post, with Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson telling HuffPost, “These speculations are nothing more than beltway gossip by anonymous sources. Whoever is feeding you these claims are either badly misinformed or deliberately leading you astray to peddle Fake News. Under President Trump’s leadership, Secretary Hegseth’s singular priority is leading the War Department and delivering on the President’s America First agenda.”

However, if Hegseth continues to be a drag on Trump’s poll numbers and articles of impeachment are indeed pursued in the Senate, it’s hard to believe he would want all of the alleged dirt about his drinking habits and physical abuse of his second wife, Samantha, resurrected and put on display in a public forum.

Then again, since Hegseth has already proven he has no shame and even less of a conscience, he might be willing to go through an impeachment trial, even if it’s just so he can lash out at Democrats. Either way, his political career would be over with unless he can manage to secure a safe place once he’s out at the Pentagon.

Much like his boss, Donald Trump, Hegseth is a rat, and if you corner him, he’s likely to do anything.
