Michigan Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers has appeared with Donald Trump numerous times in the hope that it will boost his chances of being elected next month, and yet he fumbled, sputtered, and utterly humiliated himself when Meet the Press host Kristen Welker asked him a simple question regarding his political philosophy.
“Let me ask you big picture, do you consider yourself to be a MAGA Republican?” Welker inquired.
But Rogers fumbled the question, instead attacking the media, a frequent tactic by spineless members of the GOP when they’re cornered.
“Listen, I will tell you something. I get you guys on the national press, but this is a little bit disgusting to me,” Rogers said. “You know what you don’t cover?”
Rogers then began attacking his Democratic opponent, Dr. Abdul E-Sayed.
“Congressman, I am asking about you,” Welker said.
“This is important. This is important,” Rogers replied.
“It’s not answering my questions,” Welker reminded him.
Rogers again avoided the question, claiming that Jewish Democrats and black voters in Detroit, Flint, and Pontiac “can’t vote for” El-Sayed because he’s “a fringe candidate.”
“No, are you a MAGA Republican?” Welker again asked.
“I answered the question,” Rogers insisted, even though he clearly didn’t.
“That’s what I want to know. Do you consider yourself a MAGA Republican?” Welker inquired once more.
Rogers again refused to say yes or no. Instead, he claimed his campaign has support in Detroit, Flint, and Pontiac “because we are there talking about issues,” and called El-Sayed “too extreme for them.”
Like every Republican running in the midterms, Mike Rogers knows Trump is as as toxic as a mercury sandwich and doesn’t want to be associated with him more than he has to be. Trump is a giant albatross hanging around the neck of every member of the GOP, and they want to try and avoid him as much as they can.
Make no mistake, however. Mike Rogers is pure MAGA scum and would be a disaster in the Senate. Let’s hope Michigan voters will reject him the same way he refuses to answer a simple question.
