In light of Donald Trump’s childish move of renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America” this week, our neighbors to the North appear to have the perfect way of upping the ante in the ongoing feud between the two nations.
The capital of Canada is Ottawa, and a road in the city is currently named Donald Trump Avenue. But that could soon change.
The Daily Beast explains: “For years, a residential street in the Central Park neighborhood of the nation’s capital has been known as Trump Avenue.
“But during a City Council debate about the impact of tariffs, local councilor Riley Brockington declared it was ‘an embarrassment’ to have a street honoring the U.S president and would seek to have the avenue renamed.”
Some have suggested the new street name should be “TACO Avenue,” a reminder of a nickname given to Dementia Don by Wall Street that stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out.”
Others have proposed that Donald Trump Avenue now be called Pelosi Avenue, Gulf of Mexico Avenue, Obama Avenue, and even Rosie O’Donnell Avenue.
Brockington explained his move to CNN.
“I think the time has come when you look at the damage and carnage that the president has caused, including with our own country.”
Earlier this week, Trump imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, including aluminum, auto parts, plywood, and forestry products. Canada responded with tariffs on more than 700 American products.
Oh, and even though Trump says Lake Ontario is now Lake America, MapQuest made it clear they won’t comply with the move, announcing, “We’re not changing the name of Lake Ontario.”
That led people on social media to make their own suggestions regarding what Lake Ontario should be called.
Whatever the final name winds up being, it’s certain to enrage Trump, who will respond in the most childish way possible.
