If you were wondering just how desperate Donald Trump is to try and avoid the electoral blowout that he fears is coming in the November midterms, look no further than a phone call he made Sunday to a fellow national leader and the way he begged for help with the rising price of diesel fuel in the United States.
The call was to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and the repeated pleading from Trump was about “diesel, diesel…diesel,” according to the Financial Times, citing Ukrainian officials.
Specifically, Trump asked Zelensky to end all drone bombardments against Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February of 2022.
A senior Ukrainian official with knowledge of the Zelensky call told the Financial Times that Trump said that he was concerned about rising diesel prices and didn’t want a reduction in Russian supplies to further disrupt the global market.
Earlier this morning, Trump seemed to confirm that he had indeed been speaking to Zelensky with proverbial hat in hand, writing on social media, “Russia has unfortunately lost control of its Diesel Oil Industry due to its War with Ukraine. A large number of their Diesel refineries have been blown up and are, at least temporarily, out of commission.”
“This ridiculous and never ending War with Ukraine must be ended. The whole World suffers as 25,000 people, mostly soldiers, are being killed each month. What a shame!”
Of course, all of this could have been avoided if Donnie hadn’t attacked Iran earlier this year in conjunction with Israeli forces, causing a massive backlog of oil shipments to the United States from the Middle East. But instead of backing down and reversing himself, Trump is now having to try and convince our allies to hold their fire as they fight against Vladimir Putin’s forces, which are engaged in a failing effort to prop up the aging Russian dictator.
Trump also referenced the Russia-Ukraine war on Sunday, demanding that Zelensky heed his demands as he whined, “Let him go after targets, but not diesel fuel, because he’s causing a shortage of diesel. This isn’t done by the Middle East. This is done by what’s happening with Russia and Ukraine.”
Wrong. It has nothing to do with Russia and Ukraine. Instead, it has everything to do with the Middle East and Trump’s Iran war folly, which has come back to haunt him in the form of rising U.S. inflation, increased interest rates, and skyrocketing prices for items ranging from food to clothing.
Hopefully, Zelensky will tell Donnie to kick rocks. And in November, We the People get to render our verdict on Trump’s idiotic foreign and domestic policy at the ballot box.
