Ever since he began attacking Iran in February, Donald Trump has watched as the price of crude oil, gasoline, and diesel has risen to levels the United States hasn’t seen in decades.
Fortunately, however, oil and gasoline have remained plentiful in the global marketplace, but that too appears to be changing.
Costco, one of the largest retailers in the U.S., has just announced that it will be rationing the sales of its Kirkland Signature motor oil, The Daily Beast reports.
“The retailer is limiting members to two purchases of its 5W-30 full synthetic oil every seven days, according to Costco’s website and reports from The Auto Wire.”
“The product is sold as a two-pack of five-quart bottles.”
Oh, and then there’s the price of Kirkland Signature oil, which used to retail for about $30 but is now going for $58.
Antonio Moore, a California attorney, says Costco’s move could be a sign of even worse things yet to come.
“The point is that Costco via Kirkland, has a high resolution view of all supply chains relevant to Costco,” McCracken wrote on Twitter/X.
“That perspective has resulted in them enacting rationing; that means they see severe problems upstream & coming down the pipe to the consumer level. Costco is the bulk store, and now you’re not allowed to buy bulk oil.”
How long will it be before we have gas lines and rationing a la the 1970s? Based on Trump’s ineptitude in both economics and foreign policy, that day could come before the end of 2026.
