Though it’s been clear for years that Donald Trump is fading into a mental fog from which there’s no escape, some of his top advisers are now speaking on condition of anonymity and revealing that Dementia Don has indeed lost all touch with reality and is absolutely delusional.
A report from Axios details that Trump’s senior aides say “he’s trapped by a war he shouldn’t have waged, tariffs he shouldn’t have levied, monuments he shouldn’t be obsessed with.”
Those three items are Trump’s major focus as Americans continue to struggle economically, the rich get richer, and the rest of us fall further behind.
The Iran war, economic stagnation, and his vain attempts to build things — a billion-dollar ballroom, an archway monument that reeks of Nazi Germany, and his endless obsession with reflecting pools — are dragging down Trump’s poll numbers to levels never before seen for any past president.
“Trump’s approval cratered to an all-time low of 32% in a Quinnipiac poll last week. Even more damning: 68% of voters said he isn’t focused enough on the problems most Americans face,” the Axios report notes.
Now, however, once secretive aides are privately whispering about how delusional the so-called “president” has become.
“A Trump insider told us: ‘He concentrates on the hobbies that distract from his terrible polling numbers, about which he is in denial. The other issue is how the war, tariffs and monuments are demoralizing the base.'”
Even more troubling for Republicans caught in life-or-death House and Senate races, Trump is refusing to release any of the $400 million raised by his super PAC, MAGA Inc., which has “demoralized donors” and could well doom GOP candidates in key House and Senate races.
The end result, some Republicans concede, is that they most certainly lose the House, and the Senate also appears to be slipping from their grasp, which could doom the chances of Trump being able to pass any legislation over the next two years of his term in office and even lead to him being impeached and removed from office.
“But an 80-year-old man who made the greatest comeback in American political history appears too proud, stubborn and undisciplined to change, Republicans privately admit.”
Donald Trump may even wind up doing what no one before him could: Destroy the Republican Party and lead to permanent Democratic rule in the United States. And that, the GOP knows, would be the end of their handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos.
