Thought you’d heard all of the absurd bullsh*t members of the Trump administration can spout that aren’t even remotely true? If so, wait until you find out what Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is trying to sell us.
Here’s what Bessent told Fox News host Sean Hannity last night: Artificial intelligence will be such a massive boon to the economy that pretty soon we’ll all be able to retire without a dime saved.
“I do, but I think I would change the timeline,” Bessent said. “I’ve seen Elon (Musk) speak for a long time and he is — look, his record speaks for itself in terms, as an inventor, as a venture capitalist, as a great American. He’s normally early. He’s just so far ahead of the curve. He sees things that no one else sees. But I do think we are building this incredible economy that we can’t even imagine.”
HANNITY: Elon Musk talked about Americans not even needing to save for your retirement like we have historically because of the abundance AI will create. Do you believe that?

Bessent was clearly referencing someone Musk said on a podcast earlier this year.
“Don’t worry about squirreling money away for retirement in 10 or 20 years,” Musk, told Peter Diamandis. “It won’t matter.”
Retiring without savings? Sure, if you want to be homeless and without a scrap of food to eat. Does anyone believe there will ever come a day when we can all retire when we want and not have to worry about paying the bills that keep rising every month? Sounds like some utopia that has never and will never exist on this planet.
Bessent got raked over the proverbial coals for his comments.
I just need one of these chuckleheads to tell me when AI will make prices go down. Just give me a date. pic.twitter.com/erpPdkoGo3

Telling working Americans to stop saving for retirement because hypothetical AI abundance will save them is peak economic delusion. How does AI pay your rent, healthcare or your grocery bill today?

Wow. @elonmusk should give all his money away if he's so confident.

FFS. Yeah, MAGA, don't save for retirement. Spend all your money b/c Fox / Elon / the Epstein Class tells you that AI will make you abundantly RICH!1⃣

1⃣ there will be no "retirement" in the future. Or jobs. Work for billionaires until you drop like ratshttps://t.co/zMtekPR4BS
What a scam. The same Americans who are paying higher water and electricity bills because of AI data centers, and who are struggling to afford groceries and gas? We’re supposed to believe they won’t need to save for retirement?

Great advice… retirement in America should be a hoot; no health plan and no savings. We keep saying it, but really, you can't make this shit up!

If I’m going to take advice for the future, it sure won’t be from a dimwit functionary like Scott Bessent. And that goes double for Elon Musk, who has never worked a day in his life and makes the majority of his money by stealing from taxpayers and manipulating the stock market.
Both of them can go to hell in one of Elon’s rockets.
