Earlier today, Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Pope Leo XIV, and an exchange of gifts between the two men resulted in the Vatican doing a bit of subtle trolling aimed at Rubio and his boss, so-called President Donald Trump, who has recently attacked Leo for daring to criticize the U.S. attack on Iran and advocate for peace.
The Daily Beast notes that the Vatican released an official statement on the meeting between Pope Leo and Rubio.
“There followed an exchange of views regarding the regional and international situation, with particular attention to countries marked by war, political tensions, and difficult humanitarian situations, as well as to the need to work tirelessly in support of peace.”
Oh, and there was also an official exchange of gifts, with Rubio giving Leo a glass football bearing the seal of the State Department.
Pope Leo handed Rubio a pen made of olive wood, noting that the olive branch is a symbol of peace.

In return, Marco Rubio gave the pope a crystal football.
The pope’s response?

Rubio, who is a Catholic, surely understood the symbolism of the pontiff’s gift, and so will Trump, once someone explains it to him with lots of pictures in between his naps and diaper changes.

It was probably that or some Trump merch. These are not serious people. How embarrassing for the country. What a disrespectful jackass.

Is it any wonder why the United States is the laughingstock of the world?
