According to Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), Donald Trump’s failure to bring about regime change in Iran can be traced to one factor that Americans take for granted.
Appearing on This Week earlier today, Johnson said he was “not surprised at all” that the Trump administration had been unable to reach a deal with Iranian leaders.
“The ayatollahs, even though they’ve been you know, so degraded in terms of their capabilities, nobody thought this would be easy. They’ve been preparing for this for 47 years,” Johnson began.
“They have multiple layers. They’ve got 200,000 people in the IRGC, 600,000 people in the Basij police force. They are brutal.”
If only Iranian civilians had one important thing that we have in the United States, Johnson insisted.
“By the way, this is exactly what nationwide gun control results in. The Iranian people are completely disarmed. It’s going to be very difficult for them to rise up. And so it’s a very difficult situation now.”
While he was at it, Johnson also said that Iran had brought the U.S. attack on itself.
“It’s the regime that declared war on America, not the Iranian people. So we’re not at war with the Iranian people. We’re trying to end the state sponsor of terrorism.”
Really? Didn’t the U.S. and Israel attack Iran? Yes, they most certainly did, and Trump apparently thought it was going to be a cakewalk. That’s what happens when you listen to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instead of believing what actual foreign policy and military experts tell you. It’s also what happens when you surround yourself with sycophants — Marco Rubio, Pete Hegesth, etc. — instead of getting different opinions from all perspectives.
Buckle up, America! This entire clusterf*ck is going to get much worse before it gets any better.
