Now that the Department of Justice has proven it cannot be trusted to release all of documents it has in its possession dealing with the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, the time has come for Democrats in Congress to take off the gloves and fight in a way that forces the DOJ’s hand and results in the release of all the information the government has about Epstein and others who may have engaged in illegal acts, according to a former prosecutor.
Kristy Greenberg, who served as a federal prosecutor, was a guest on MS NOW today, and she explained how a 2020 memo from the Southern District of New York that was redacted by the DOJ would serve as the perfect document for court action.
“That whole memo is redacted, other than saying ‘anticipated charges’ and that a meeting with the deputy attorney general took place,” Greenberg noted.
“That is exactly the kind of information that the American people want to see. If [the Southern District of New York] did want to bring charges against other people, who stopped it, and what was the evidence that would have allowed them to bring such a case? Those kinds of things are what should be seen.”
What if the DOJ continues to stonewall? Take them to court, Greenberg suggested.
“If the DOJ fails to comply, then they are in contempt of a court order; any other avenue here doesn’t really work,” she added.
“Sure, you could find them in contempt of Congress, but are they really going to put these guys in jail or detain them? No. You can refer them for criminal prosecution to the DOJ, but the inmates are running the asylum, so that’s not going to do any good! This has to be handled in court. That’s what they’re next move should be.”
Several federal judges have already shown that they will refuse to protect the Trump administration when it violates the law. And the courts may well be the only thing that saves this country from devolving into a fascist police state.
The time has come to use whatever means necessary to get answers for the nation and accountability for Epstein’s victims.
