Fox News host Emily Compagno wants American consumers who are struggling this holiday season to simply relax and think pleasant thoughts, because a reliable expert on the U.S. economy told her he’s optimistic about the future.
During discussion of a recent recent Wells Fargo report that found the cost of a Thanksgiving meal for 10 people had fallen to $80, Fox’s Brian Kilmeade remarked, “And the most important thing is that you feel it’s affordable, because consumer confidence is at a 40-year low, dating back to 1987. And that’s when the market collapsed.”
That led Compano to say, “I appreciate your point, Kilmeade, about what you hear and what you feel. Because no amount of statistics that are told to you matter unless you actually feel it at the table and you have your optimism.”
“I spoke with a very important correspondent at our Christmas tree lighting, Santa. And he told me that this year, he feels people have high sense of optimism he hasn’t seen for a long time.”
Oh, well! Then we have nothing to worry about, now do we? All we need to make it a slam dunk is to get the Easter Bunny to become chairman of the Federal Reserve and the Tooth Fairy to be chair of the Council of Economic Advisers and the economy will boom!
So go ahead and spend money you don’t have on pricey Christmas gifts for everyone you know. It might drive you into bankruptcy, but rest assured Santa will be happy to stuff a few million bucks in your stocking this year.
