Criminal-in-Chief Donald Trump is furious with cities across the United States that are refusing to let high-tech data centers be built in their towns, and today he warned that any town refusing to host a data center will wind up being “backwards and poor.”
Trump lashed out on the subject via social media, posting on his financially failing Truth Social site, “The only reason that communities throughout the U.S.A. should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor. If they want to be successful and rich, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place, let Data Reign.”
“The good news is that there are plenty of other places that want them. If we kill the Golden Goose, you will only have yourselves to blame. China could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement. Actually, they can’t believe it is happening!”
Trump signed an executive order in July of 2025 to accelerate permits for data center construction, which led to a burst of data center growth across the country.
But in the 14 months since that executive order was issued, more and more towns have begun to have second thoughts about the massive energy and water needs necessitated by data centers, and more cities are banning them, fearful that the centers will do more harm than good.
Recently, a poll conducted by Embold Research showed that 75% of those surveyed said they were opposed to data centers being built in their community.
Of course, it should surprise no one that Trump would be in favor of data centers, which most often support the burgeoning artificial intelligence (AI) sector and include companies owned by his dear friends Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and other high-tech billionaires who would gladly raze their mothers’ homes if it would further enrich them.
This is already a major issue in the midterm elections, and Trump’s push for more data centers could cost him dearly in votes from rural areas in key battleground states.
