In an effort to prove that nonexistent voter fraud is taking place across the country, the FBI has taken what some experts are calling the “extraordinary step” of obtaining the IP (Internet Protocol) addresses of thousands of people who registered to vote via online platforms.
An IP address is a unique number linked to your online activity, somewhat like the return address on a letter.
Documents shared with Axios show that in one case, the FBI “obtained the IP address of someone who registered online in South Carolina.”
“The bureau’s request for the address, which state and local officials complied with, offers a glimpse of how federal authorities are stepping up their probe of voter rolls and registration practices under pressure from President Trump.”
Such a move could be illegal and lead to chaos, according to Robert Weiner, former senior counsel at DOJ’s civil rights division and director of the Voting Rights Project at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights.
“The administration has gone down every rabbit hole, pursued every possible avenue to undermine the confidence in the integrity of the federal election process and to undermine the process itself.”
And York County (S.C.) election official Alan Helms admitted such requests are hardly routine and “not common.”
The Trump administration is hell-bent on proving a thesis that has already been disproven on multiple occasions: That voter fraud is rampant in the United States.
In reality, Donald Trump and his cohorts are focused on one thing: Destroying confidence in the voting process in order to discourage voters from casting ballots and, if that fails, attempting to cast doubt on the result of the upcoming midterm election so they can declare it invalid and allow Republicans to remain in power.
If Trump and others in the GOP try to steal the next election, it will be up to each of us to take to the streets and let them know this country still belongs to us.
