Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) thought he had the perfect line of attack for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, suggesting that Mamdani was a “communist” who was living off the public dime while espousing redistributing wealth from the richest Americans to those who have almost nothing.
During an interview on Fox News, Cruz referred to the mayor as “Comrade Mamdani” and attacked him for owning a home in Uganda, where he was born.
“But that’s always the case. Fidel Castro was a billionaire. Putin is a billionaire,” Cruz said. “The leaders of communist regimes are always rich. They steal and rob from those they govern.”
Actually, Mamdani is a democratic socialist, not a communist, and there’s a big difference between the two. Cruz knows that, but couldn’t resist trying to smear the mayor with the same pejorative that Donald Trump has been using over the past few weeks.
As for stealing from those who are being governed, that sounds a lot like Donald Trump, who has seen his personal wealth skyrocket to more than $2 billion since he took office in 2024.
Critics couldn’t resist rubbing Cruz’s nose in his blatant hypocrisy.
