Having lost a 6-3 decision in the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn birthright citizenship, the Trump administration may soon try to implement a policy that would mandate sterilizing foreign visitors who want to travel to the United States.
According to California Attorney General Rob Bonta, we can expect all sorts of bizarre ideas from the White House in the months ahead, and some of them will also likely wind up before the high court.
Bonta was a guest on MS NOW, and he warned, “Who knows if they’re trying to save some face. But some of this stuff, like sterilizing everyone seeking a visa coming to the United States, is wild. And it’s already illegal to seek a visa for the purpose of birth tourism.”
He added that such plans are based on “this conspiracy that there is widespread birth tourism,” but “the data shows that it’s minuscule when it happens, if it happens at all.”
“They’re trying to base their argument against birthright citizenship on that, on that myth,” Bonta explained. “And even the U.S. Supreme Court justices barely gave it any time in the almost 100 pages of the order.”
If indeed Trump does try to make it a law for all foreigners to be sterilized before they can visit the U.S., he should keep in mind that such laws could work both ways.
Want to travel to Paris for a romantic getaway? Well, you’ll have to get a vasectomy first. Ladies will have to prove they’ve had a hysterectomy. And all of a sudden, international travel between the United States and the rest of the world would cease. That would be bad for the economy and even worse when it comes to foreign policy.
Also, if such a policy is implemented, Donnie won’t be able to travel anywhere beyond this country, not even for state visits. Then again, he’ll probably make sure that he’s immune to the new restrictions. After all, he’s never believed any laws apply to him.
