Retired United States Army Lieutenant General Mark Hertling had some strong words for Secretary of State Marco Rubio this morning during an appearance on MS NOW, suggesting that Rubio was more interested in flattering Donald Trump and the American military establishment rather than seeking a diplomatic solution to the conflict between the United States and Iran, even though the State Department is supposed to seek compromise instead of war.
Appearing on “Morning Joe,” Hertling was asked if the war with Iran should be considered a success so far.
“What I will say is I’ll make a recommendation to all politicians: quit starting your sentences with, ’We’ve got the greatest military in the world,” Hertling replied. “The military knows what they can and can’t do, and what they can’t do is end a war that’s up to the politicians, and to continue to open your sentences like Secretary Rubio just did with how great the military is, is a waste of time.”
“You know, the military, for the most part, is pretty humble,” he noted. “There’s no hubris involved. We don’t need other people telling folks how good we are; we know what we can do. But we also know what we can’t do, and that’s the ground we’re in right now.”
He added, “So I can say that I make that recommendation to all politicians: knock it off. Worry about what you’ve got to do to end wars.”
Rubio, like everyone in the Trump administration, is too busy sucking up to Dementia Don to actually do his job. That’s why the second Trump term in office is such a miserable failure. These asshats posture instead of governing. No wonder this White House is circling the drain.
