You probably recall that just last week Elon Musk showed up at the White House sporting a nasty black eye he said was the result of his 5-year-old son, X, having punched him.
Not everyone bought that explanation, but as MSNBC host Rachel Maddow noted last night on her show, it’s emblematic of what Musk has inflicted on government agencies since he and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) began slashing the budgets and staff of numerous agencies, even though Congress hasn’t signed off on those cutbacks.
Referencing a news story that revealed what DOGE had done at the non-profit U.S. Institute of Peace, Maddow noted that when a judge ruled the agency had to be reopened, staffers found water damage, infestation by rats, and even marijuana that had been left behind.
“It’s just pure pointlessness and waste,” Maddow began. “Yes, the black eye was cute, but may I suggest that this is perhaps more on the nose as the legacy of what the Trump administration has done through Trump’s top campaign donor, Elon Musk, as Elon Musk leaves Washington.”
“A building seized pointlessly. Shut down pointlessly. Left to be infested by vermin. All so its rightful owners can eventually come back and have to put it all back together again. For no reason at all. I think that’s a better metaphor,” she added.
Black eyes and vermin. Yeah, that does indeed sound like Elon Musk. Then again, it sounds like everything the current administration does. They’re heartless sacks of shit who destroy everything they touch. And if given the chance, they’ll rip away every freedom we have.
