Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller (a.k.a. Dr. Evil) is furious that poll numbers for his boss, Donald Trump, on the issue of immigration have hit rock bottom, and he’s threatening staffers as a result of the polling downturn.
Immigration was one of Trump’s signature issues in the 2024 election, and while early polls showed his support holding steady for the first couple of months in office, they have since fallen precipitously, according to Axios.
During a meeting with immigration officials on May 21 at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) headquarters, Miller demanded 3,000 arrests a day. That’s triple the number ICE agents were making in the early days of Trump’s presidency.
“The increased pressure on agents comes as border-crossing numbers have plummeted in Trump’s first four months. It signals an increasingly aggressive approach to making arrests in non-border communities nationwide. It also comes as the Trump administration’s heavy-handed tactics in rounding up unauthorized immigrants — and in some cases, legal residents and even U.S. citizens — appear to have contributed to President Trump‘s slipping poll numbers on immigration.”
Also present at the meeting was Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, who was probably preoccupied wondering whose pet dog she would execute next.
But it was Miller who issued threats to ICE employees.
“Miller’s directive and tone had people leaving the meeting feeling their jobs could be in jeopardy if the new targets aren’t reached, two of the sources said. A third person said Miller was trying to motivate people with a harsh tone.”
Miller and others in the administration are worried about the fate of an additional $147 billion they’ve requested from Congress over the next decade for ICE will be cut by Congress as they debate the administration’s 2026 budget, which is already under fire from both conservatives and progressives for the focus on tax cuts while slashing spending on health care and food assistance for the poorest Americans.
Hopefully, Trump’s polling numbers will continue to plummet and Miller will be given the boot by the ever-fickle alleged president. Someone as purely evil as Stephen Miller belongs in a sanitarium, not on the White House staff.
