Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said this morning that Donald Trump’s call for children to receive fewer toys at Christmas due to his ongoing tariff and trade war is an example of “strength and leadership.”
Appearing on Meet the Press, Barrasso was confronted with this quote from Trump: “I’m just saying they don’t need to have 30 dolls. They can have three. They don’t need to have 250 pencils. They can have five.”
“Senator, what do you say to people who hear those words and feel like the president is telling them to ration their goods?” Welker asked.
“Well, the president, I think, is very effective at using the bully pulpit, and he is using it, I think, to show strength and leadership of America,” Barrasso responded.
Barrasso added that recent trade discussions between the US and United Kingdom, along with meetings being held with Chinese trade officials are proof the tariffs are working.
“The president is very effective at using the bully pulpit,” the senator claimed. “What people are concerned about here at home is, and they’re happy about, is that the price of gasoline is 50 cents cheaper a gallon now than it was at graduation time last year, $10 cheaper to fill up the truck.”
“That’s what the American people are concerned about: Their own pocketbooks.”
Yes, but the American people are also concerned that they may have to pay three or four times what they normally do in order to provide gifts for their family members when Christmas rolls around in December. They also care that the cost of nearly everything at the grocery store continues to rise. And they care that the United States is now seen as having started a trade war it’s already losing.
As any parent knows, it’s not easy to tell your children no, especially at Christmas. But according to President Grinch, that’s just the price we’ll all have to pay so he can look like he’s a tough guy.
Strength and leadership? Nope. Just more stupidity and boorishness from the orange anti-Santa.
