Today is officially a National Day of Prayer in the United States, and as you’d expect, there was a ceremony at the White House, where the most ethically-challenged man to ever hold the office of president simply couldn’t resist making remarks.
Oddly, Donald Trump tried to suggest that prayer, religion, and tax cuts for the rich are all connected in some way that only makes sense to him.
Speaking from the Rose Garden, Trump referenced the “one big beautiful bill” currently making its way through Congress that would give the richest Americans massive tax breaks.
“We love that bill,” Trump said. “I won’t like it if it doesn’t pass. Neither will you. If it doesn’t pass, your taxes are going to go up 68 percent.”
“And this is a religious ceremony to me, but that’s part of the religion, because if your taxes go up 68 percent, you might give up your religion,” he continued. “You might have no choice. You’ll be working too hard to try and make it.”
If the tax legislation fails, Trump said, Democrats would be to blame.
“They’ll vote against it. It’s not even believable. It’s called Trump derangement syndrome, because honestly, they— everything in there is good for Democrats, Republicans, and everybody else.”
So, tax cuts are now part of Christianity? Where is that passage located in the Bible that Trump and most of his Republican allies have never actually read? Even if they did read it, their actions certainly suggest they didn’t understand or adopt the tenets of the book they claim as their guiding light.
Here’s a suggestion for Donald Trump: Quit trying to pretend that you’re a spiritual person. That requires that someone actually have a soul.
