You’ve probably seen the quote hundreds of times on social media. It’s usually accompanied by some sort of photo or illustration to catch your eye: “When a clown moves into a palace he doesn’t become a king, the palace instead becomes a circus. — Turkish proverb.”
Former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather shared the quote on Facebook as a commentary on Felon-in-Chief Donald Trump and his administration. It quickly garnered over 1 million likes and 65,000+ comments.

That Turkish proverb is truer than ever when applied to Trump and his maniacal policies, not the least of which is the damage he’s doing to the U.S. and world economy with his disastrous tariffs.
But perhaps the best part of Rather’s Facebook post was the comments it drew from those who saw it and wanted to express their agreement.
Someone had to say it
Perfect description of what is going on right now. I never understood people’s fear of clowns, until now…
A very dark macabre circus.
I’m 89 years old and will not live long enough to see the final destruction but what terrifies me is my grandchildren will!!
So much more than a circus, that would be a happy place- this ain’t no happy place. More like Hell on earth!
It’d be nice if we could laugh at the Trump circus, but it’s hard to be happy as you watch a deranged fool destroy what was once the greatest country in the world.
